QuarkChain holds a bi-weekly AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Telegram/Wechat groups on Saturday at 7–8 PM PST. This is the summary for AMA from last week. We welcome any questions, comments, and suggestions.

Q1: QuarkChain TPS Competition is ongoing, and 300,000 TPS has also been reached. What’s your excepted TPS?

A1: First of all, I would like to congratulate the community members that achieve 100K, 200K, and 300K TPS at the first time! Second, to our surprise, we didn’t expect that our community members could achieve the performance number in such a short time. We are very happy to see how enthusiastic the members are. For the estimated TPS, I hope we could achieve at least 500K TPS in the competition, or hopefully 1M TPS!

I think with more progress, achieving those numbers will not be a difficult one day on QuarkChain!

Q2: Do we really need such high TPS in our real use case? How will you persuade other people to use QuarkChain?

A2: In general, the peak TPS of a system (capacity) should be much greater than average, that means 10–30K TPS needs about 10x capacity to ensure 100% available. Taking EOS as an example, even most of time the performance is enough, however, when EIDOS comes, the network is congested during peak time, and thus a lot of users cannot use EOS at that moment.

Both goquarkchain and pyquarkchain will have similar cluster structure, and we also provide docker to use them easily. So the difference will not be huge from user perspective. However, if you are a developer, it may take a bit more time to study. But free to post your issues to community.quarkchain.io and github, and we are happy to answer the questions. Q3: As we know, team is making native taken. why team want to make it? What’s the benefit of it? and how to use the native token?

A3: The benefits of a user-created native token are a lot:
1, people can use the token to pay transaction fee;
2, people can use the token to directly transfer (imagine one-click for DeFi)
3, people can move the tokens between shards easily, which address DeFi cross-shard composability

Please note that ETH2.0 plans to support all time, but it may take 3–5 years, and yes, we already support that. https://ethresear.ch/t/moving-eth-between-shards-the-problem-statement/6597/8

Q4: Dr. Zhou joined one piece blockchain form event, and talked about IoT and Blockchain. What’s the connection between these two?

A4: IoT is one area that grows dramatically these days, however, IoT is also facing new issues such as security

Blockchain can be a great solution to the problem, and people are interested in how and which scenario will be the first. One example I gave is to use blockchain as an immutable ledger that store video surveillance’s data as evidence. However, such applications require a large number of transaction data, which is prohibited in current blockchain platform.

And I think it is a perfect scenario for us since we have such great TPS easily!
