Ethereum and its layer 2 solutions are bringing its vision of the “world computer” closer to reality: a permissionless, global operating system designed to replace centralized, trusted intermediaries.

However, to truly serve global users, the world computer faces significant challenges, including high costs for validating off-chain computation, EVM performance bottlenecks, storage limitations, barriers to onboard web2 users, and reliance on centralized frontends.

We present the Super World Computer (SWC) Project: a highly customized layer 2 built on OP Stack to overcome these challenges.

  • Introducing a non-transferable Soul Gas Token to ease the Web2 to Web3 transition by reducing onboarding costs.
  • Parallel EVM execution will boost performance and lower latency.
  • EthStorage, integrated as Layer 3, will enable long-term, cost-effective storage for massive datasets.
  • A new web3:// standard will enable fully decentralized, on-chain applications and dynamic websites.
  • Advanced fault-proof algorithms will lower validation costs and accelerate settlement times.

What is Super World Computer?

QuarkChain is pioneering the Super World Computer: a fully decentralized Layer 2 blockchain designed for decentralized AI applications with unmatched scalability and security.

By leveraging gas token innovation, EthStorage’s scalable storage, the web3:// access protocol, and a fast finality fault-proof algorithm, it provides the perfect infrastructure for on-chain AI, games, and social platforms.

As a key player in the Ethereum ecosystem, QuarkChain serves as a testing ground for EVM and OP Stack advancements, setting benchmarks for the next generation of Layer 2 solutions.

Key Features of the Super World Computer

  • Soul Gas Token
The SWC Layer 2 offers a Soul Gas Token, a non-transferable gas token that covers transaction fees for new users. Airdropped to ease onboarding, it allows users to pay for gas without upfront costs.
  • Pushing EVM Performance Limits with Parallelization
Parallel EVM enhances execution speeds by utilizing parallel program execution and data reads such as Programmable Access Lists and Intelligent I/O Preloading.
  • Programmable Large Storage with EthStorage as L3
The SWC Layer 2 will integrate EthStorage as L3, reducing the cost of storage to approximately 1/10,000th of the mainnet cost.
    Supported by ESP Grants.
  • Web3 Access Protocol — Transforming EVM into the Unstoppable Web Server
The web3:// standard allows seamless navigation of on-chain resources. This turns EVM into an unstoppable decentralized web server, paving the way for a fully decentralized web.
  • Advanced Fault Proof Algorithm Supported By OP
The SWC Layer 2 uses an advanced fault-proof algorithm built on top of OP Stack, improving dispute resolution efficiency. This reduces interactions and gas costs greatly and speeds up settlement times. We received OP grants for this.

Development Progress

Beta Testnet: The Next Step for the Super World Computer

We’ve completed development and testing for the initial SWC Layer 2 alpha testnet with key features such as utilizing the test QKC ERC20 token as a custom gas token and implementing the inbox contract feature within OP Stack, allowing on-chain smart contracts to validate off-chain batches. This feature also enables functionalities like a decentralized sequencer network and long-term BLOB storage through EthStorage Layer 2

We are launching the beta testnet soon, which includes EthStorage as L3 and introduces the soul gas token, a non-transferable token aimed at mass Web2 user adoption. To support EthStorage as L3, we’ve enabled BLOB transactions on OP Stack Layer 2, which is crucial for programmable storage capabilities.

Grants Received from Optimism

QuarkChain, together with its ecosystem partner EthStorage, has secured Optimism grants for four key research areas and is closely collaborating with OP Labs to achieve meaningful advancements:

1. Research on Alternative OP Stack Zero-Knowledge Fault Proof Using WASM

2. Research and Development on Multi-Section Dispute Game

3. Extend the Availability of EIP-4844 Blobs by Integrating OP Stack

4. Retro 5 Grant from Optimism on Research and development on multi-section fault dispute game (joint work with EthStorage)

Roadmap

Technical Milestones

(Please note that many of these tasks are in collaboration with partners such as OP Labs, EthStorage, and timelines may be subject to change).

2024 Q3 (Finished)

We have launched our first SWC L2 alpha testnet, utilizing the test SWC ERC20 token as a custom gas token. Additionally, we will introduce the inbox contract feature within OP Stack — a capability that allows on-chain smart contracts to validate off-chain batches. This feature will enable functionalities like a decentralized sequencer network and long-term BLOB storage through EthStorage L2.

2024 Q4/2025 Q1 (Ongoing)

We are preparing to launch the SWC L2 beta testnet with new features, including EthStorage as L3 and the soul gas token. To support EthStorage as L3, we will also enable BLOB transactions on OP Stack L2, which is essential for enabling programmable storage capabilities. Meanwhile, we are performing extensive tests to meet high-standard code quality including unit tests, end-to-end tests, integration tests, and tests on devnet.

2025 H1

As our beta testnet nears maturity, we plan to launch the SWC L2 mainnet with the default fault-proof implementation. Alongside the mainnet launch, we will collaborate closely with OP Labs on upstream features, including the inbox contract and fault-proof for custom gas tokens, which are targeted for the OP Stack future upgrades. Additionally, we will introduce our advanced multi-section fault proof on the devnet.

2025 H2

Once our multi-section fault proof reaches maturity and passes auditing, we plan to deploy it on the testnet/mainnet. Simultaneously, we will launch our high-performance EVM testbeds on SWC L2.

Community Milestones

We’ll soon host an AMA session to connect with our community, address questions, and gather feedback. Regular AMAs and other initiatives will ensure ongoing engagement.

As we approach the mainnet launch, major token metrics — including the allocation of Soul Gas Tokens — will be determined through community governance voting. Early adopters will also receive Soul Gas Token airdrops, a non-transferable token exclusively for gas fees within the QuarkChain ecosystem. This token will play a pivotal role in onboarding Web2 users and strengthening our ecosystem long-term.

Community at the Core: Participate Now!

Our vision for the Super World Computer places the community at the heart of everything we do. Beta Testnet is not just a technical milestone — it’s a call to action for our community to actively participate, share feedback, and shape the roadmap ahead.
